Sacred Heart Apostolic School is a pre-seminary high school dedicated to forming young men as Christian apostles—ready to evangelize todays culture and free to discern Gods call, including the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood.

Founded by the Legionaries of Christ, our school brings together rigorous academics, spiritual depth, personal mentorship, and the joy of authentic brotherhood.

FAQs about Sacred Heart Apostolic School

Clear answers for families discerning the next step in their son’s formation.

What grade can a student enter the school?+

The student may apply and enter from 8th grade or later. Before that time, boys can enter the Knights of Sacred Heart. This program introduces young men to life within the school and offers an opportunity to know other students.

Does the school prepare a student for college or a career?+

Students learn to freely respond to God’s will in their life, whatever that may be. They learn to think critically and form strong convictions. Sacred Heart is accredited by Cognia, and graduates have continued at Loyola University, Ave Maria University, Benedictine College, Christendom College, Holy Cross College, and others.

Must one be certain of his priestly vocation to enroll?+

No. Discernment continues after high school. If a student chooses the seminary, formation as a Legionary of Christ takes up to 14 years.

Is the school accredited?+

Yes. Sacred Heart Apostolic School is accredited by Cognia.

What activities does Sacred Heart have outside the school?+

Students take part in a sports league, community outreach, hikes, swimming, winter activities, hockey, and cultural activities. They also serve through Clean Up America, visiting the sick, Morning Run ministry to feed and help the homeless, the March for Life, boys’ leadership camps, and street missions of evangelization.

Do the students play any interscholastic sports?+

Yes. Students have cross country, basketball, and soccer teams, and they participate in the ECYD Sports Tournament.

How much time do the boys have to visit their families?+

There are approximately 80 days per year for home visits. Please look at the calendar for specific dates. Families are also welcome at the school at any time.

How often can families contact their sons?+

Consistent communication is vital to the success of each student and our mission. Students call their parents several times a week via Chromebook and FaceTime: currently Sunday afternoon, Wednesday evening, and Saturday afternoon. Parents may call at any time to speak to their son.

How many graduates go on to enter the seminary?+

This varies from year to year, but usually around 50% of students attend the Legion of Christ seminary candidacy program for a summer. They make a decision about entering the seminary during this program.

How many graduates have been ordained to the priesthood?+

Sacred Heart has celebrated its first ordination: Fr. Thomas White was in the first graduating class. Experience in apostolic schools around the world suggests that around 10% of students who attend an apostolic school will be ordained priests.

What have graduates who have not continued in priestly discernment gone on to do?+

Each student discovers his gifts, talents, and desire to serve Jesus Christ. Alumni have started businesses and non-profits, entered the military, and worked as actors, musicians, photographers, videographers, computer-service professionals, and executives.

Do priests teach at the school?+

Our faculty consists of highly qualified priests and lay people. Priests also serve as deans of students, accompanying them throughout their day.
